Subject: Nematode results ¡V Nepenthes sp. and hybrids
A representative sample of plants of Nepenthes sp., representing a consignment of plants for export to Taiwan, was submitted to the Nematology Laboratory of Queensland Primary Industries and Fisheries at Indooroopilly for extraction of plant parasitic nematodes. The plants had been grown in either a sphagnum moss substrate (which had been gamma irradiated on importation from New Zealand) or in a coconut husk (coir) chip and perlite substrate. No soil was used in the growing media. The plants had been grown in hanging pots or pots on benches, so had not been in contact with soil. In addition, R. similis is not native to Australia and is only found in soils where bananas have been previously grown.
