-- 作者: DJL Hi folks! Are we going to turn this forum into an English channel or something? Please, PLEASE stick to Chinese whenever technically possible }:0) Most Kniphofia are highland species native to the Afro-montane climate in and around the vicinity of Lesotho. Strictly speaking, Kniphofia is a cool-climate plant which could possibly survive the highlands of Taiwan. Rogerian has got the point here as Veltheimia tends to adapt to much milder climates (hardy to USDA zones 8 - 10). That said, a major problem cultivating bulbs of the Liliaceae and Alliaceae families seem to stem from bacterial activities if your summer climate is hot and wet. Against the said summer condition, bulbs tend to disintegrate and that's why you never attain flowering size bulbs of Hyacinths in warm climates. Does anybody have success with Veltheimia in Taiwan? DJL
-- 作者: charlot YA,Kniphofia were successful growing at our high land area. Many famer had growing this for cutting flower. But I never heard the Veltheimia growing there.Only few succulate mania had import some from Japan or other area. But I really do not know it can be good growing trugh our summer.
-- 作者: DJL Charlot, Veltheimia is a summer growing bulb. It should not be too difficult to cultivate Veltheimia in Taiwan provided that bulbs enjoy a good winter dormancy and a good supply of watering and sunlight in summer. There are various colour forms of Veltheimia. A friend of mine in California collects these rare forms. As far as I know it, he has got various yellow forms, rose and mauve colour forms. The latest correspondence suggests that he has got a variegated form. He is a Veltheimia maniac! DJL
