I think SGD150 for a Vanda sanderiana var alba seedling is really a bit too expensive. The plant should be far from flowering (based on experience, the flowering plants are at least 30cm tall). However, I would readily pay more than SGD150 if the plant is an established (i.e. usually consisting of a mother plant plus two or more keiki plants) and flowering (just the normal type will do for me) plant of Vanda sanderiana of wild (i.e. could not be a hybrid) origin.

Speciosa, Many thanks for your detail explanation and of course the beautiful picture. One of the vendors in KL told me he has a species sanderiana for sales.... kind of pricey for a normal form. Saw an alba seedling (about 5" tall) in Manila. Asking price is about SGD150 per plant. Since I did not know they well enough and did not see the flower, I did not buy it (very, very regret now)
Now, I am very, very keen to buy the sanderiana normal form...
again, thanks for sharing.

One of my Vanda sanderiana plants (see below) just flowered earlier this month. Although the flowers not very impressive, I still prefer species (rather than hybrids) as these are truly original creations by Mother Nature.
The flowering of Vanda sanderiana is seasonal, just like many species. Its two-week bloom happens during the peak months of July until September. It is a ubiquitously large (4 inches across) two-tone flower (10 to 12 pieces per spike), and there are three recorded forms: the typical being pink with a tinge of magenta; the intermediate variety albata (Ames, 1908), which is white with pale purple and/or brown venation on a butterscotch yellow base; and the variety immaculata (Golamco, 2002), which is white with an unblemished cavendish green base (which is more commonly known as the alba form).
According to Andres Golamco Jr., the attributes unique to a genuine Vanda sanderiana hold the lip structure as key: concave curvature of the sidelobe brims; closely joint sidelobe bases; wide flattened yet slightly off-horizontal midlobe stance, pronounced midlobe jagged serration along peripheral margins; three midlobe keels markedly parallel and do not meet converge at any point; general flower color is relatively flat or dull rather than bold or striking; pinkish pigmentation of the pedicel; and a lean labellum column base.
On its vegetative traits, Alicia Javier notes that the vigorous leaves though predominantly strapped (v-shaped at cross section) throughout the tip, have a pronounced clasp toward the base or origin. The new leaves have a bluish gray (glaucous) waxy sheen layer. The base of the plant tends to produce several keikis that would later assert growth dominance over the motherplant.

Hi all, Sorry to use this space to ask question... but is related to Euanthe sanderiana...
Speciosa, Since Euanthe sanderiana's influence is so dominant, how do we tell if the Euanthe sanderiana bought is genuine even though it is cultivated from flask? Any sign or traits to show the diff?
