I've heard that most of American people do not like racoon, the reasons are just as you said.
My stay in Florida is only around 4 weeks. When I was a college boy, I paid a visist to my sister and her husband who was struggling for their degrees in University of Florida at that time. I can't believe that gators just living so close to the human being. I can feed birds on backyard, swimming with a crowd of fish in clear spring water, fishing with pelican(they fly to you when you got fish). There is no doubt that it is the most wonderful & unforgetable trip in my life.
I've never been to West Palm Beach, but my sister said it's a nice place and quite close to Miami. I'd glad to visist Florida at any time, but no plan in this year, maybe in the near future. Anyhow, I'd like to thank you for ur information regarding Orchid Show.

SOAVI: Yeap! they are quite common, however, you don't want to be near it, they eat garbage, hard to kick them out of your house if they are nesting... and if they are sick, it can be contagious. Oh, so is this sandhill crane, they walk around my community once awhile.
Are you planning coming back to Florida anytime soon? there will be an International Orchid Show down in Redland. (not far away from Miami)

Racoon seems quite common in America. During my stay in Florida, a racoon just nesting on my backyard.
